Dexter Girls Varsity Soccer Team Drops 2-1 Loss to Trenton in Regional Finals

The Dexter Dreadnaughts ended their season 19-3-2 against Trenton on June 22.

Traveling back to Trenton for the second time in three days, the girls' soccer team carried all of the play but not enough of the goals.

After upsetting second ranked Livonia Ladywood in the regional semi-finals, the Dreads returned to Trenton June 22 to play the host school and lost, 2-1.

Two shots on goal was all that Trenton needed to defeat Dexter.

While the junior varsity team ended their season with 10 wins, five losses and one tie, this year’s varsity squad went 19-3-2, winning the SEC White Division for an 11th time in the last 12 years and won their 11th district title.

Along the way they won the Marshall Tournament and were undefeated in the Southeastern Conference, with a 9-0-2 record. Varsity letter awards were received by freshman Stephanie Misevich; sophomores Katerina Kerska, Racheal Spencer, Lauren Kimmel, Paige Bartkowiak, Courtney Harber, Bethany Shiguango; juniors Alex Dinser, Andi Kimball, Kaitlyn Kivi, Ashley Kunzman, Lindsey Lloyd, Hannah Ruble, Courtney Stewart, Olivia Vollmers; and seniors Madeline Judge, Nicole Lucas, Victoria Pepper, Alex Semifero, Sarah Silvasi, Celina Sunesen, Emily Tarnaski and Jaimie Verbal.

Pepper, Lucas, Dinser and Vollmers were named first team All-Conference, and Verbal, Silvasi, Tarnaski, Judge and Kimball were given honorable mention.

State All-District team members included Pepper, Silvasi, Dinser, Vollmers, Tarnaski, Judge, Lucas, Verbal and Lloyd, while Coach Scott Forrester was name District Coach of the Year for the seventh time.

State All-Regional team members were, Lucas, Pepper, Dinser, Silvasi and Vollmers. Nicole Lucas was named to the All-State 1st Team, as both Pepper and Silvasi made the 2nd Team, Dinser made the 3rd Team and Vollmers made honorable mention.

Team awards went to Madeline Judge as "Best Defensive Player," Nicole Lucas as "Best Offensive Player." Victoria Pepper was named the recipient of the Alex Forrester Passionate Player Award. Jaimie Verbal received the Coaches Award, and Hannah Ruble was named "Most Improved Player."

Andi Kimball and Olivia Vollmers were named as the captains for the 2013 season.
