Dexter Soccer Club Revs Up for the Season
Tryouts for local athletes will take place on June 18 and 19.
The Dexter Soccer Club (DSC) is gearing up for the new soccer season and will be holding open tryouts June 18-19 at .
DSC team tryouts are geared toward kids who have an interest in playing soccer all year at a competitive level beyond the Dexter Communication Education program.
“Kids of all skill levels are welcome," Nick Janosi, DSC board member said. “We will form teams based on who shows up for tryouts and what skills they possess."

DSC attracts kids from all over the area. The club has more than 300 participants and more than 23 girl and boy travel teams that participate at all levels. Many of the teams are tournament and league-title winners. Janosi said the club’s highly qualified European and American-trained coaches are one of the reasons that club teams are so successful.
According to Janosi, teams and coaches help players develop the skills and teamwork necessary to have fun playing competitive soccer under licensed coaches. Tryouts help the organizers and coaches place kids on teams that are age and skill appropriate.

There is no preparation required for tryouts. Kids will participate in some warm-up soccer drills and games.
Dexter mom Holly Cabana has been involved with the DSC for three years and recommends the program to anyone interested in soccer.
“I am so pleased with the growth I have seen in my kids’ skills and love of the game. They have been exposed to a professional level of coaching and have enjoyed being part of several successful teams,” Cabana said.
There is no cost for players to tryout but there are fees ranging from $500-$1,450 per year once kids are placed on teams. Organizers encourage those interested in joining to register online at www.dextersoccer.com, which also includes the tryout schedule.
DSC also offers non-competitive options, which do not require tryouts. Most children under the age of 8 will participate in the “Kangaroo Kickers” and academy programs. The cost for the programs is $75-$150.
