When I was a teenager we said you were an old woman if you couldn’t wear sleeveless dresses because your upper arms jiggled too much. I am now old enough to be on Medicare. This summer I put on a sleeveless dress and checked my upper arms: not much wiggle there!
I met Bobby Clennell when I first went to study at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune, India over thirty years ago. I was young, clueless and in awe of the more experienced teachers and other students in class with us. I quickly learned to add 10 to what I thought was another yogini’s age by her appearance.
This past February 2013, Bobby and I were both back again to study at RIMYI at the same time. One day we looked at each other and laughed out loud: “We are the old ladies now!” And, we are still able to do yoga. We really were both older and wiser. We were also stronger and more flexible in some ways, if not in others. And we were both much happier in our own skins. Even if there were wrinkles and crinkles in various places, we can still go sleeveless with glee.
