How Craft Beer Aficionados Can Help Jolly Pumpkin Build Taphouse

Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales brewery plans to begin construction this month on a cafe and taphouse at its Dexter brewing facility, MLive reports.

The new venture, which will be known as Null (Northern United Liquid libations) Cafe & Taphouse, will be located at  the 70,000-square-foot facility at 2319 Bishop Circle East location where Jolly Pumpkin and its parent company, North Peak Brewing Co., have been brewing and bottling artisanal ales since February 2013.

Ron Jeffries, who founded Jolly Pumpkin in Dexter in 2004, said demand for the beers has far exceeded supply. Building out the Dexter facility was capital intensive and Jeffries has established a fund-raising web site where craft beer aficionados can help fund the cafe and taphouse, and receive perks for doing so.

“We basically spent all of our money building the brewery,” Jeffries said. “What we want to do for the taproom is have a fundraiser where people can buy a bar stool with a permanent name plaque or a growler with refills.”

The Dexter Village Council approved the cafe and taphouse when Jolly Pumpkin and North Peak moved into the facility. Jolly Pumpkin and North Peak beers will be featured, along with North Peak Brewing Co.’s wine, cider and spirits. The cafe will offer a small menu from a commercial kitchen.
