Police Report: Vandals Strike Dexter District Library, Forest Lawn Cemetery

Property Destruction

On Tuesday, deputies with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to the . Upon arrival, deputies discovered that several of the library's windows had been broken. No further information was provided. The case remains under investigation.

"We have been receiving reports of juveniles trespassing on the railroad tracks behind the public library. This is not only illegal, it is extremely dangerous," said Sheriff's Department Sgt. Beth Gieske. "We encourage all parents to discuss the potential ramifications that go along with this activity. Individuals caught trespassing will be cited."

Larceny of a Motor Vehicle

On Tuesday, sheriff's deputies assigned to the Dexter area responded to a complaint of theft from a parked motor vehicle in the 7000 block of Base Lake Drive. According to police reports, two sets of golf clubs were removed from the vehicle. No suspect information is available.

Commercial Building Burglary

Sheriff's deputies assigned to Scio Township investigated a commercial burglary Monday. According to police reports, deputies were called to the financial services firm Birkle & Birkle, 3634 W. Liberty Rd., and discovered that the business had been ransacked and that several computers had been stolen. Police believe the burglary had taken place in the previous three days, but no suspect information is available. Three Dell Opti 745 laptop computers were taken.

Larceny

On Sunday, deputies patrolling the village of Dexter responded to a complaint of a stolen power washer in the 8000 block of Hudson Street. According to police reports, the owner told deputies that the power washer was in his yard when it was taken. The owner told police that he believes that item had been stolen sometime during the previous day. No further information is available.

Vandalism

A deputy with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department was dispatched Friday to Forest Lawn Cemetery in Dexter Village in response to a property damage complaint. According to police, the deputy discovered that one or more individuals had damaged property within the cemetery estimated at $100. No further information is available.

Driving Under the Influence

On July 26, a deputy with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department was dispatched around 9:05 a.m. to the area of Dexter-Ann Arbor Road and Ryan Drive in response to a call about an unresponsive driver. According to police, contact was made with the driver, who was asleep in the driver’s seat of a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire. Officers suspected the driver was heavily intoxicated, according to police reports. The driver, a 21-year-old Plymouth Township resident, was transported to an area hospital for treatment. A blood alcohol test was performed at the hospital. The report will be sent to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office.
