Renew, Reuse, Recycle

Are You Green?

1- Used clothing is green: The life of a single cotton shirt requires considerable energy resources. Cotton plants must be sown, fertilized, and harvested. The fiber must be spun, woven, and assembled. Finished pieces are shipped worldwide. When considering two comparable pieces- one resale, one new- the used one has already undergone this energy cycle. Resale clothing fits into the green mantra of Renew-Reuse-Recycle.

2- Resale clothing is less expensive: Most every resale piece at Kids Fashion Jungle will sell at a fraction of the original price.

3- Resale pieces can last longer: After washing a brand new shirt once, the stitching began to unravel. Most resale pieces don't have such issues. Having been worn and laundered by others, any signs of poor workmanship or shoddy materials have already appeared. A used clothing item that still looks good on its resale rack is likely to last once you bring it home.

4- Limited resale selection can get you out of fashion ruts: My girls have several outfits consisting of boldly patterned A-line skirts and unusual, solid-colored tops. During a trip to a consignment store, we bee-lined to the skirts to find new pieces. There were no boldly patterned skirts and they tried on dresses instead. We frequently buy dresses, so we left the store with five of them. Limited selection enabled me to break out of my own personal fashion tedium.

5- Used clothing is more likely to benefit local businesses and individuals: Vintage and consignment clothing stores are almost always small businesses. Some thrift stores are charity run such as Goodwill or Salvation Army and directly benefit locals by generating money used to feed, clothing, house, and train low-income individuals.
