1. Sand Point Lighthouse: A shoreline sentinel of history (miningjournal.net) — Escanaba’s Sand Point Lighthouse and the Delta County Historical Society Museum are now open daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Labor Day, offering a close look at the city’s maritime past. Visitors can explore restored lighthouse rooms, Coast Guard exhibits, and artifacts from local shipwrecks while learning about trailblazing keeper Mary Terry and the community effort that saved the landmark from demolition.
   

2. Lemmer introduces book vending machine (dailypress.net) — Lemmer Elementary in Escanaba has installed a new book vending machine so every first- and second-grader can take home multiple free books, starting with two before summer break. Funded by the PTO and community support, the program blends occasional behavior rewards with guaranteed tokens for all students to encourage a lasting love of reading.
   

3. Delta County marina opens up for the season (uppermichiganssource.com) — Escanaba’s Municipal Marina is now open for the season, with extended daily hours starting Saturday and plenty of slips ready for weekend visitors and local boaters. Despite a 65% drop in occupancy, staff highlight free Yellow Bikes, picnic spots, and bayside paths that anyone can enjoy, even if you never step on a boat.
   

4. Escanaba Little League runs on teamwork and community support (wzmq19.com) — Escanaba families with young ballplayers can plug into a fully volunteer-run Little League that’s already a month into its 2026 season and still seeking more helpers and sponsors. Coaches say the 7- and 8-year-olds are learning confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship as they transition from coach pitch to pitching themselves, and community members are invited to come out and cheer.
