1 Dead In Wrong-Way Fiery Crash On I-696 In Oakland County: Reports

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI — A woman was killed in a Monday morning wrong-way fiery crash on Interstate 696 in Farmington Hills, according to multiple reports citing police.

Police said the woman was driving a BMW SUV east in the westbound lanes on the freeway around 2 a.m. when she slammed head-on into a semi truck near Orchard Lake, according to reports.

Both vehicles caught fire and the woman died, reports said.

The freeway near Orchard Lake Road was shut down for hours and only one lane was open late Monday morning.

Police were still investigating the crash and working to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
