9-Year-Old Boy Dies In Oakland County Crash: Police

A 9-year-old boy was killed in a Tuesday night crash on a freeway in Oakland County, Michigan State Police said.

SOUTHFIELD, MI — A 9-year-old boy was killed in a Tuesday night crash on the Southfield Freeway in Southfield, Michigan State Police said.

Police said a vehicle with a blown out tire was driving very slow with the hazard lights on in the southbound lanes on the Southfield Freeway near 8 Mile Road at 7:40 p.m.

As the driver tried to get across the freeway toward the 8 Mile Road exit ramp, a box truck rear-ended the vehicle, police said.

The driver and a juvenile who was in the front seat of the car were taken to a local hospital for non-fatal injuries, police said.

The 9-year-old boy, who was in the backseat of the car, was also taken to a nearby hospital where he died, police said. Investigators said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the box truck suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and was also taken to a nearby hospital, police said.
