Alert nurse recognized for saving discharged patient's life
West Bloomfield nurse receives award for patient safety
To honor a nurse for most likely saving the life of her patient, Botsford Hospital has named Daniela Murariu, RN, of West Bloomfield, as a recipient of its Safety Award. This award recognizes employees’ contributions to the hospital’s safety initiatives on which Botsford has built its clinical care.
Picture this, you’ve been in a hospital bed for days, but today you’re getting discharged. The family is there to drive you home. Just a quick stop in the restroom before leaving your room, and wham, down you go, knocking your head. You get up and laugh it off, but your nurse keeps monitoring your condition and trying to detect any neurological changes. She notifies the physician on duty of these neurological changes. You’re taken down for an emergency CT scan, and they find progressive neurological changes. You’re having a stroke. Botsford, a certified Stroke Center of Excellence, delivers the immediate care needed to preserve your brain function and save your life.
Murariu’s keen observational skills and commitment to the highest standard of patient care ensured the best possible outcome for her patient. Being in a rush and continuing on with that discharge could easily have turned into lifelong suffering or even death for this patient.
