Barricaded Gunman Shot, Wounded By Police In Oakland County: Sheriff

Officers tried talking to the gunman, but he responded by firing shots that struck multiple police cars and nearby homes, police said.

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI β€” Officers shot and wounded a man who barricaded himself inside an Oakland County home after a domestic incident and firing shots at officers Sunday afternoon, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

The incident happened at a home in the area of Middlebelt and 12 Mile roads in Farmington Hills, according to the sheriff's office.

The incident began after the woman fled the home during an argument with the man, according to the sheriff's office.

Officers tried talking to the man, but he pulled out a rifle and fired shots at officers, according to the sheriff's office.

Officers then retreated and took cover as the man then barricaded himself inside the home, according to the sheriff's office.

Investigators also learned there were two children (whom belong to the woman) inside the home where they locked themselves in an upstairs room, according to the sheriff's office.

The children managed to escape the home, according to the sheriff's office.

Shortly later, the man opened the home's door and fire more shots at officers, according to the sheriff's office.

The rounds struck multiple police cruisers and nearby homes, according to the sheriff's office.

A SWAT team sniper then struck the man with a single shot, according to the sheriff's office.

Officials took the man to a nearby hospital where his condition was not known, according to the sheriff's office.

Officials did not report any other injuries in the incident.
