Big Family of Michigan Makes a Move

Big Family of Michigan is a nonprofit organization with programs that provide Michigan’s foster children and young adults the chance they deserve for happy productive lives.  Big Family of Michigan has moved to a new location:  41747 Irwin in Harrison Township.

Big Family of Michigan began supporting children in Michigan’s foster care system in 2000. That year, the organization helped a few dozen children. Since that time, Big Family of Michigan has grown with programs that reach over 10,000 Michigan children each year.

“It is wonderful to continue to evolve and grow,” said Jeanne Fowler, founder of Big Family of Michigan.  “Our new location will allow us to maintain our programs and easily serve the children throughout the state.  We are always thankful for the support we get from members of the surrounding communities and our partnering businesses and organizations.”

Big Family of Michigan volunteers work closely with state and local agencies, schools, churches and community members to reach children in foster care or in at-risk situations.  These children are given school supplies, birthday and holiday gifts, apartment and dorm necessities, chances to go to sporting and community events, as well as advice and friendship.

The organization relies on the generosity of others and hosts fundraisers and supply and toy drives to acquire the items needed for the children.  The donations are kept in the 3,800 square foot warehouse where they are assembled and distributed as needed. There is easy access for pick-up and deliveries.

This new location will be home to many volunteers, donating over 16,000 hours each year, to make sure donations are accepted, stored and distributed.

The public is invited to an open house on Thursday, March 13, 10 am – 3 pm to find out more about the many programs of Big Family of Michigan and tour the warehouse.  A donation of new children’s pajamas, socks, coloring books & crayons or word puzzle books would be appreciated.
