Buying New Boots
It's time to buy new boots! They can be stylish - but do they protect your feet?
Now that the winter months are here, it is time to check last years boots for proper fit and see what condition they are in.Β Chances are - it is time for a new pair.Β When shopping for any footwear, keep in mind protection, support, comfort and stylishness.Β
Dr. Lee Hoffman, podiatrist at NorthPointe Foot & Ankle in Berkley, has this boot selection advice to share:
Β 1. Β Β Be sure your boots are insulated and waterproof. Even if the boot maker says the boots are waterproof, still treat them with a waterproofing product. The body has to work harder to compensate for moisture, so you want to minimize as much moisture to your foot as possible.

4. Β Β Boots with rigid shaped soles limit natural foot movement and provide little, if Β Β Β Β Β Β any, arch support.Β Add cushioned insoles and arch supports.
5. Β Β The best traction is received from boots with a rubber sole and deep grooves.
6. Β Β Styles with narrow toes and high heels often cause pain and numbness.Β Select a lower heel or stacked style for additional support. Β Choose a style with plenty of toe room, a firm heel counter and traction to ensure stability.
7. Β Β To provide warmth, ski sock liners are a way to keep feet warmer without Β Β Β adding bulk. They are available at sporting good stores and are warn under Β Β regular socks.
8. Β Β Β Above all β listen to your feet.Β If they are not comfortable, the footwear Β Β Β Β selected is not the best.
Shopping tips:
1. Β Β Try boots on later in the day as feet tend to swell throughout the day.
2. Try the style on with the thickness of socks you expect to be wearing with the boot.
3. Β Β Most individuals have two different size feet.Β Buy for the larger sized foot.
4. Β Β Boots should feel comfortable as you try them on.Β No βbreaking inβ period Β should be necessary.
