Choosing the right orthodontist for you

Getting orthodontic treatment is a timely and costly matter. Take time and consideration when choosing an orthodontist!

It is important to consider many things when choosing the right orthodontist for you and your family. A great start would be to get recommendations from friends, neighbors, coworkers, or relatives. Chances are people in your life will tell you their honest opinion about the doctor and his or her staff.Β

The next step would be to schedule a consultation with the doctor. During the consultation, you should expect to be informed of the suggested treatment, the duration of treatment, and the estimated cost of treatment. Do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have, the orthodontist should be willing to answer all of the questions you have. Financial questions may need to be directed to the front office staff to help determine your insurance benefit and payment options. A lot of times, it is helpful to seek a second opinion to help select the best treatment for you or you child. Not only is it important to agree with the orthodontist's treatment plan, but it is also very important to feel comfortable in the office and with the doctor.Β  An orthodontist/patient relationship could potentially last for years, so it is a necessity to choose an orthodontist that you get along with.Β

Another important aspect of choosing an orthodontist is checking theΒ doctor'sΒ certifications. Some general dentists will practice orthodontics.Β  However, they have not taken the additional years of training specific to orthodontics.
