6-Year-Old Drowns In Oakland County Lake: Officials

MILFORD, TOWNSHIP — A 6-year-old Detroit girl drowned while swimming in Kent Lake at Kensington Metropark in Milford Township on Memorial Day, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said.

A dive team was called in to search for the child in the water after she went missing around 5:30 p.m. at Martindale Beach, officials said.

People on the beach also volunteered to help the rescue effort, forming a human chain in the water.

Officials found the young girl near a weeded area by the shore and performed CPR. She was then taken to Providence Hospital in Novi, where she later died, officials said.

No further information was available as officials were still investigating the incident.
