Detroit-Area Furniture Retailer Closing 2 Showrooms

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI — Gorman’s Home Furnishings and Interior Design is closing its Southfield and Troy showrooms, the company said Monday.

Those two Oakland County locations will conclude regular business hours on Friday. A private sale for invited past customers will take place Aug. 13-14, with a public store-closing sale beginning Saturday, Aug. 15.

Company officials said customers can expect discounts up to 80 percent.

The move will allow the company to focus more on its remaining locations, including its showroom in Novi and its three-day clearance center and warehouse in Farmington Hills.

"Gorman’s has always been a destination business and has built a reputation around quality, style, design expertise and long-term relationships. We believe it is important to maintain a physical showroom where customers can experience quality furnishings, discover new ideas and work directly with talented interior designers," Gorman’s Home Furnishings & Interior Design CEO Jonathan Moray said. "By concentrating our operation around Novi and Farmington Hills, we can continue serving customers throughout metro Detroit and Michigan while building a more focused foundation for the future."

Officials with Gorman’s said the company will continue to fulfill existing orders, complete scheduled deliveries and support active interior design projects.

Customers do not need to take any action unless the company contacts them, officials said.

The company plans to retain key employees, possibly with current compensation while potentially expanding the remaining operation.

Officials will communicate staffing decisions and transition details directly with employees.
