Driver Dies In Oakland County Fiery Crash With SMART Bus: Police

The driver of the bus told officers he saw multiple cars speeding on the freeway and believed they were racing each other, police said.

SOUTHFIELD, MI — A driver was killed Tuesday in a fiery crash with a SMART bus in Oakland County, Michigan State Police said.

Police said the driver was speeding in the northbound lanes on the Southfield Freeway near 8 Mile Road in Southfield at 11:50 p.m. when the car smashed into the back of a bus and caught fire.

Officials arrived and put out the blaze and found the driver dead inside the car, police said.

Officials conducted an autopsy Wednesday, but police still haven't identified the dead driver, police said.
