Drunken Driver Crashes Into Trooper's Car: Report

Troopers had stopped another motorist when a Farmington Hills man allegedly drifted out of the travel lanes and struck the police car.

A suspected drunken driver crashed into a Michigan State Police patrol car after two troopers assigned to the Metro Post had pulled over another motorist for an unrelated traffic stop, police said Monday.

The accident occurred at 3:05 a.m. Sunday on the shoulder of westbound Interstate 696 east of Orchard Lake Road, according to a news release.

State Police said the driver of a 2009 Jaguar drifted out of the travel lanes and struck the rear end of the patrol car. Both troopers sustained minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital and released, according to the report.

The 33-year-old Farmington Hills man who was driving the Jaguar failed a field sobriety test and was taken to the Oakland County Jail, police said.
