Farmington Has Given Mentobe Cafe a 'Friendly Reception'

Owners of the downtown Farmington coffee shop say their location was meant to be.

Call it karma or coincidence, Kim Chapman, co-owner of , says when she and her friends decided to open their business in June 2011, it was all meant to be.

Chapman and long-time friends Jackie Mulvihill and Dave Epps were looking for the right opportunity. When they saw the newly renovated McNutt building in downtown Farmington, next to the , they immediately knew it was the perfect location for their dream café.

“We’ve had a friendly reception from the people in Farmington,” Chapman said. “They have been good and very welcoming.”

Cozy and welcoming aptly describes the coffee shop. Furnished with large comfortable chairs against contemporary, calming hues, the location is the perfect place to meet up with friends, grab a book and sip on a smoothie, or take a break from the hustle and bustle of the office.

What distinguishes this coffee shop from others is the selection of 12 different coffee beans from around the world—all freshly roasted on-site.

Soon, Mentobe will also host a gallery of art featuring the work of various artists, Chapman said. Patrons can also enjoy live music on the weekends, "open mic" nights and occasional poetry readings.

In addition to fresh coffee and a varied menu, the owners are community-oriented, giving back through special events throughout the year. Mentobe Cafe was a collection point for Miss Farmington's Blizzard Buddies campaign in December.

“I am overwhelmed by the reception we’ve received from the community,” said Chapman. “It’s been overwhelming how they really want us here.”

Hours are Monday-Wednesday, 7 a.m.-8:30 p.m.; Thursday and Friday 7 a.m.-9:30 p.m.; and Saturday 8 a.m.-9:30 p.m.
