The Fight for Air Climb, a signature fundraising event for the American Lung Association, is held in prominent skyscrapers across the country, giving participants the opportunity to join friends, family, and co-workers as they climb the stairs to the top of the building. Detroit’s Fight for Air Climb has been taking place for eight years and Farmington Hills fire fighters have been there since the beginning.

In 2016, more than 30,000 participants from 51 Fight for Air Climb events across the country raised more than $8 million to support the mission of the American Lung Association. Collectively, Fight for Air Climbs to date have raised more than $40 million towards research, patient education, and advocacy efforts.

Given their increased risk for lung disease, including lung cancer, Farmington Hills fire fighters are proud to support this extraordinary event, and get a great workout at the same time. Detroit’s Climb involves 71 flights of stairs and 1,050 steps with fire fighters making the ascent in full turnout gear and self-contained breathing apparatus that weighs over 55 pounds.

This year’s event was dedicated to Fox 2 anchor, Milford fire fighter, and longtime Fight for Air Climb Master of Ceremonies Ron Savage who recently died during Fire Department training.
