Farmington Library Carries Award-Winning Children's Books

Jack Gantos wins Newberry Medal and Chris Raschka wins Caldecott award.

The carries two books that today won the highest honors in children's literature – but you may have to wait a bit to read one of them.

Jack Gantos' Dead End in Norvelt won the John Newbery Medal for the best U.S. children's book of 2011, according to the Associated Press. Chris Raschka's A Ball for Daisy won the Randolph Caldecott award for best illustrated story, the report stated.

The library has two copies of each book. As of Monday afternoon, one copy of A Ball for Daisy, a picture book that shows the fun a dog has with her ball, was on the shelf. Dead End in Norvelt, the story of a 12-year-old from a small, Pennsylvania town, is a bit more popular, with both copies of the book checked out and three holds already placed.
