Farmington Zoning Board Denies Tree House Appeal

The 13-year-old's tree house is more than 10 feet over the city's height limit.

The Zoning Board of Appeals last night disappointed 13-year-old David Ratze, denying an appeal over his 26-foot-high tree house.

WDIV-TV reported Monday that the boy built his treehouse in the backyard of his home north of Grand River with the help of friends and his swim coach. After code enforcement officialΒ John Koncsol spotted it, the city sent a letter notifying the family that the tree house was over the city's height limit.Β

After two hours of deliberation Tuesday night, WDIV reported, Zoning Board members denied an appeal, citing safety concerns. The boy's father indicated the family may pursue other avenues of appeal.Β
