Fire Department Offers Free Child Car Seat Inspections

The government reports 75 percent of children are riding in car seats that aren't secure.

Farmington Hills, MI — The Farmington Hills Fire Department wants to ensure your child rides safely in their car seat.

Nationally-certified child safety seat technicians will inspect all child car seats for proper installation and possible product recall on Sunday, July 10 from 8 a.m. to noon at Fire Station No. 4 at 28711 Drake Road.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 75 percent of children are riding in car safety seats that aren’t properly installed.

Inspections are free and open to the public. Participants do not have to be a Farmington Hills resident. To make an appointment, call Farmington Hills Fire Headquarters at (248) 871-2800. Inspections take about half an hour to complete

Those unavailable Sunday should contact Fire Marshal Reggie Madeline of the Farmington Public Safety Department at (248) 474- 5500 or contact the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Novi Rehabilitation Center at (248) 305- 7530 to schedule an inspection.
