First Michigan Bank Changes its Name

Talmer Bank reflects the names of the bank founders' grandfathers.

First Michigan Bank, which has branches in Farmington and Farmington Hills, has changed its name to Talmer Bank and Trust.Β

Talmer Bank and Trust, a community-oriented depository institution, serves the financial needs of individuals and businesses in communities throughout the Midwest.Β

The name Talmer is a derivation of the names of the grandfathers of the Bank’s founders, Gary Torgow and David Provost.Β  They were determined to continue the legacies of their grandfathers---one a missionary in Asia and the other a prominent lawyer and author who help the underprivileged.Β  These two remarkable humanitarians never met but shared a common purpose---enriching the lives of their communities.

β€œWhile Talmer is a different kind of name for a bank, customers will find we are a different kind of Bank.Β  We take our commitment to the communities we serve very seriously, because in the wake of the challenges faced by the banking industry over the past few years, we understand how critically important the role of a community-oriented bank is in driving the growth and vitality of the areas it serves,” said David T. Provost, chairman of Talmer Bank and Trust.

β€œI can think of no better examples of commitment to that spirit of community building than those displayed by our grandfathers. Whether it was building schools and places of worship in Asia, like David’s grandfather, or serving as a pillar for the community while practicing law, like my grandfather, these talented, yet humble men consistently put others’ interests above their own.Β  We are honored to continue that spirit,” said Gary Torgow, chairman of First Michigan Bancorp, Inc.
