FPS Proms Take Students And Money Out Of Town

Tis prom season in Farmington/Farmington Hills. Why does FPS send students and the money spent out of town?

This past week Farmington High School held their senior prom. The prom kicked off with a meet and greet pre-prom party and photo ops with parents at the Warner Mansion. I thought it was quite nice.

The actual prom was held at the Rooster Tail in Detroit. Students either paid for limousine service or drove their own vehicles to the event and then back to Farmington. I’ve been told the event at the Rooster Tail was quite lovely. But, I do find it hard to believe that there isn’t a suitable venue located in Farmington/Farmington Hills that would be more than happy to host prom dances for our local high schools.

Throughout the year, we ask local merchants and residents to support our schools through donations, taxes and a recent tax increase. Yet, when an opportunity arises to hold an event that could generate income for a local business, the decision is made to spend that money out of the area.

I feel that Farmington Public Schools should support the local merchants and business that support them through out the year.
