
Sheldon A. Weiner, M.D., has joined the medical staff at Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills. This board-certified gynecologic oncologist sees patients on a referral basis at the Botsford Cancer Center as part of The Oakland Medical Group located at 27900 Grand River Ave, Suite 220, in Farmington Hills. Dr. Weiner also sees patients at his Royal Oak office with the same group located at 3577 W. 13 Mile Rd., Suite 204. He has been named an "Hour Detroit" Top-Doc for three years running.
After graduating from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Dr. Weiner served his clinical training at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, which included a yearlong flexible internship followed by a three-year residency in obstetrics and gynecology. He then moved to Missouri to serve a two-year fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Washington University School of Medicine Hospitals.
Dr. Weiner has served as principal investigator or investigator on numerous clinical trials and has given many presentations to fellow physicians on topics related to gynecologic cancers. Among the several professional organizations that count him as a member are the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists.
According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, each year, approximately 71,500 women in the United States are diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer and approximately 26,500 women die from it. Gynecologic oncologists are generally the most appropriate type of physician to treat patients with ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer, or vulvar cancer.
