How Do You Spell? It Turns Out We All Need to Ask

The Scripps National Spelling Bee just ended, after once again torturing young kids, forcing them to hang their heads in shame as they failed to spell words like "Wehrmacht" and "bailliage," and "vasopressi

It turns out … we all have words we cannot spell.

Google has released a map showing the most misspelled words by state.

What they did is compiled data based on the search "How do you spell."

And some of the words may surprise you.

Michigan has a problem with “gray.” So do South Dakota and Oklahoma. Grammrist.com has a whole big thing about “gray” versus “grey.” Basically, it comes down to this: Americans spell it “gray” and almost every other English-speaking country spells it “grey” — kind of like the metric system.

The most common search in Massachusetts? How do you spell Massachusetts?"

California, Indiana, Connecticut, and Utah all have trouble with "desert" though it's not clear if people were looking for more sand or ice cream.

New Yorkers have trouble with "beautiful" which could easily be an issue for a therapist.

New Hampshire, meanwhile, apparently has a problem with "diarrhea," which can't be good for tourism.
