Learn More About International Baccalaureate at Monday Meetings

Students must attend one of the meetings in order to apply for the

Current 8th grade students interested in the Farmington Public Schools International Baccalaureate (IB) programme, along with their parent or guardian, must attend one of two information sessions offered Oct. 21 and Oct. 28.

The IB programme is housed at Harrison High School. The coursework is generally considered more rigorous and focuses more on teaching students how to think, than on memorization.

Evening sessions will be held Oct. 21 at Dunckel Middle School and Oct. 28, at East Middle School; both sessions start at 6:30 p.m. Daytime sessions will be held at 9 a.m., at both schools.

According to a district list serv email, slots will be allocated to each high school on a percentage basis, taking into account the student enrollment. Unused slots from any school will be equally dispersed among the remaining schools. A lottery may be held in schools where interest in the program exceeds the number of available slots.

After attending the meeting, students must submit an interest form for the programme by Dec. 2. For more information, visit the district's website
