Man, 21, Drowns While Swimming In Oakland County Lake: Police
Officials did not identify the man, but noted he was from Highland Township.
INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, MI — A 21-year-old man drowned Tuesday while swimming in an Independence Township lake, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
Police said the man was swimming with a friend in Townsend Lake, which is east of Dixie Highway near Waterford Road, at 1:40 p.m. when he unexpectedly went underwater and never resurfaced.
Divers with the sheriff's Search and Rescue Team located the man shortly after 2 p.m. about 100 feet from the shore and in 20 feet of water, according to the sheriff's office.

The 21-year-old man was taken to a nearby hospital where he died, according to the sheriff's office.
