Man Killed In I-75 Crash In Oakland County: Police

Michigan State Police said the man crashed his SUV on the freeway after driving through a construction zone.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — A man died Sunday morning after crashing his SUV in a construction zone on Interstate 75 in Oakland County, according to Michigan State Police.

Police said the 75-year-old man was driving a Volkswagen Tiguan in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near Rattalee Lake Road in Springfield Township at 4:40 a.m. when he drove into a section that was closed for roadwork.

The man then crashed his SUV after driving through a section of the roadway that was missing a portion of the concrete, creating a 1.5-foot drop off, police said.

The man was not wearing a seatbelt and officials have notified his family, police said.

Police also said the man had dementia and was reported missing.

"Our condolences go out this gentleman’s family and friends," Michigan State Police First Lt. Mike Shaw said. "The on scene investigation is complete and we are waiting for the medical examiners report."
