Moroccan Woman Alleges Regular Beatings in Arranged Marriage

A 41-year-old Farmington Hills man is accused of regularly beating his wife and taking her passport and visa.

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI – Police in Farmington Hills are investigating the allegations of a Moroccan woman who said her marriage to the man who has been beating her since January is arranged.

Farmington Hills police began investigating the 41-year-old man after an out-of-state friend of his wife called and reported troubling phone conversations with the woman, including one in which she accused him of beating her three times a week, The Farmington Hills Observer reports.

The allegedly beatings began in January after the two began living with each other, according to reports. His ex-wife and chldren are living in the basement of the home, The Observer said.

According to the friend who contacted police, the most recent attacks occrred on April 30 and May 2. The man’s wife alleges that she was punched in the head several times and grabbed by the neck, and that her husband took her passport and visa.

The man, who wasn’t named by the newspapr to protect the identity of his alleged victim, was arraigned on a domestic violence charge in Farmington Hills’ 47th District Cout last week. He was released on a personal bond and ordered to appear in court for a pretrial hearing on May 20.

The man’s wife was referred to a women’s shelter for protection, according to the report.
