Motorcyclist Killed In Oakland County Crash: Police

Investigators said the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.

COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, MI — A motorcyclist was killed in a Thursday afternoon crash in Commerce Township, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Gary Michael Kingins, 57, of Saginaw, was riding a 2017 Kawaski Vulcan 1700 motorcycle west on Sleeth Road near Marcello Drive at roughly 4:30 p.m. when he collided with a 2024 Ford Edge that was being driven by a 60-year-old Farmington Hills woman, according to the sheriff's office.

The Edge was turning left turn onto Marcello Drive from eastbound Sleeth Road when the motorcycle struck the Edge at the intersection, according to the sheriff's office.

Kingins was taken to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries sustained in the crash, according to the sheriff's office.

Investigators said he was not wearing a helmet.

The 60-year-old Farmington Hills woman, who was wearing a seatbelt, was treated at the scene for her injuries sustained in the crash, according to the sheriff's office.

Investigators do not believe alcohol played a role in the crash.

Police were still investigating the crash.
