SOUTHFIELD, MI — A Southfield babysitter was arrested after police said he sexually assaulted a 5-year-old boy he was watching in Macomb County on Saturday.

Mark Baum, 36, was charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct after he inappropriately touched a child on Saturday, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office said.

Baum was arraigned Monday at 41-A District Court in Shelby Township and given a $150,000 cash bond, authorities said.

If he is released, he must wear a GPS tether, officials said. A probable cause conference is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 1.

The parents of the 5-year-old boy told police they hired Baum through Care.com, which connects families with services for their children, officials said.

It was the second time they asked him to watch their son, officials said.

The 5-year-year-old boy and an older child in the Macomb Township home told their parents that Baum had touched the younger boy inappropriately, officials said.

That's when officials said they got a call from the boy's parents around 8 p.m. Saturday saying their son was sexually assaulted by Baum, officials said.

Baum is not an employee of Care.com but lists a profile on the website, which said he has 10 years of experience, officials said. Officials do not know how many other times Baum has watched kids.
