Security officers at Botsford Hospital bring holiday dinner to needy cancer patients

A story of Christmas good cheer

The security officers of Botsford Hospital established a new annual giving tradition last year to bring good cheer and much-needed nourishment to disadvantaged patients of the Botsford Cancer Center. Director of Security Michael Geldmacher, working in conjunction with the social worker staff at the center, identified two patients and their families who will receive a complete holiday dinner delivered to their homes on Christmas Eve.

“My staff of 37 officers and I forgo personal gifts, so we may give a meaningful gift that makes possible a decent nutritious meal for a few patients who would not otherwise have one,” Geldmacher says.

The Whole Foods Market in the city of West Bloomfield on Orchard Lake Road is getting involved by giving the officers a break on cost of the food to assist in this charitable gift. The two patients and their families will receive turkey dinners. Both meals will be rounded out with vegetable and potato side dishes.
