Students: Apply for Farmington Musicale Awards

The 43rd annual competition, with cash prizes, will be held March 3 at Nardin Park Church.

Applications are available for students in grades 7-12 who plan to compete in The Farmington Musicale’s “Awards for Musical Excellence” competition.

The 43rd annual competition offers cash awards to further music education and is open to students who attend Farmington public or private schools, to children of Farmington Musicale members, and to those whose primary residence is in Farmington or Farmington Hills but attend school elsewhere.

Applications were distributed during the week of Jan. 2, 2012 to the music departments in all Farmington–area middle and high schools. The applications may also be obtained at FarmingtonMusicale.com. Applications must be completed and returned, postmarked no later than midnight, Friday, Feb. 17, 2012.

This year, the competition will be held on Saturday, March 3, at in Farmington Hills. Categories include piano, grades 7-8, 9-10, 11-12; instrumental, grades 7-8, 9-10, 11-12; vocal, grades 10-12. Prizes can be awarded in each grade division. Singers are strongly encouraged to audition this year, in order for the Musicale to continue offering the vocal category of the competition.

First place winners will perform their winning solos in recital at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 11, at on Gill Road in Farmington. Awards will be presented at that time, as well as the Strey-McCallum Piano Award, which is presented to the student who is judged to be the most outstanding pianist, regardless of grade level.
