Thieves Pose As City Workers, Steal From Farmington Hills Home: Cops

Two men stole items from a Farmington Hills home after pretending to be with the city's water department.

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI — Police warned Farmington Hills residents Monday to be on the lookout for burglars pretending to be with the city's water department.

Police said on March 28 at 3:52 p.m. two men approached at a home in the area of 9 Mile and Drake roads in Farmington Hills. The two men claimed to be with the city's water department and said they needed to check the water inside the home, police said.

Once inside the home, one of the men distracted the homeowners while the other stole items from inside, police said.

Police described the men as both white, between 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches in height and around 30-years-old. Police also said one of the men was wearing a green safety vest and a brown baseball hat.

The burglars were seen driving a newer silver model SUV with a white magnetic placard on the driver’s side door, police said.

Farmington Hills police Chief Jeff King reminded residents to not let anyone in their home who arrives unexpectedly or present suspicious information.

Anyone who can identify of the burglars, had similar contact with the robbers, or has any information to assist in this investigation, was asked to contact the Farmington Hills Police Department Command Desk at 248-871-2610.
