Winter Wardrobe Trends

Look your best this holiday season.

Stay comfortable, warm and stylish this season with the latest fashion trends available at Meijer. The Meijer Style Team has called out some key trends to incorporate into the winter wardrobe of every family member. Use their advice to prepare for holiday gatherings, winter play, school, work, or gift giving.

WOMEN

    • Sweaters are the most important item this season, and there is a silhouette for every occasion. Pair a tunic, v-neck or cowl neck sweater with your favorite legging, pant, jean or skirt. Be trend-right in a sweater dress and knee-high boot. Choose a cardigan, flyaway, sweater coat or poncho for layering. Mixed textures, open weaves, chunky knits, eyelash metallic yarns, and cable stitching add newness to this staple, in addition to Aztec and Nordic prints. Winter white options should be part of everyone’s wardrobe.
    • Leggings continue to be on the must-have list. Warmer, fleece-lined options are available and new prints add interest.
    • Party skirts are flirty and fun this season with skater, flocked and lace styles. Add any length boot for the perfect pairing.
    • Bling, bling and more bling. Rich metals detailed with rhinestones and gemstones, and estate-looking pieces, lead the way. Layer bracelets, mix long and shorter length necklaces, and don’t forget a dynamic ear. New earrings that are meant to be seen front and back are a perfect gift-giving item.
    • Stylish winter ready footwear begins with lining of faux shearling or fur. Tyrolean lacing, faux fur trim and a wedge heel complete the styling.
    • A quilted puffy jacket should be capped off with a pom pom topped knit hat.

The enduring style of American workwear is the main inspiration behind men’s fashion this season.

    • Layering is both practical and supports personal styling. Here’s a great example from the Meijer Style Team.
      • Start with a standard t-shirt. White works, as well as solid colors.
      • Add a shirt of bold checks, flannel or wool in muted colors.
      • Top off with an outer layer, such as a sweater, fleece jacket, quarter zip pullover, vest, faux Sherpa fleece hoodie, shirt jacket or quilted puff style coat.
      • Denim for bottoms. Try straight fit denim from Seven7 or a dark vintage wash by Izod.
    • In addition to workwear, athletic influences are important. Raglan sleeves, banded cuffs, fleece pullovers and drawstring details are incorporated into many pieces.
