Oakland County Man Stabbed To Death Over How To Cook Chicken: Police

Police said the incident happened during a barbecue on Labor Day.

HAZEL PARK, MI — A fatal Labor Day stabbing in Hazel Park was over how to properly barbecue chicken, according to police.

The fatal stabbing happened at 5:20 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 7, at a home in the 1600 block of East Granet in Hazel Park, according to police.

Police said 60-year-old Kenneth Thomas was hosting the barbecue at the home with his live-in girlfriend and her brother, 62-year-old Cleo Lawson.

During the barbecue, Thomas and Lawson began arguing over how to prepare the chicken properly, according to police.

Lawson eventually stabbed Thomas during the argument, according to police.

Officers arrived at the home and tried to treat Thomas's wounds, but he died, according to police.

Lawson was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He was placed in the Oakland County Jail and denied bond. His next court date had not yet been scheduled.
