Benefit at Ferndale’s Gay Club Soho Supports Orlando Victims
Proceeds from the Friday benefit will go to the Equality Florida Pulse Victim Fund.

Ferndale, MI — Thousands of dollars have already been pledged to help the families and victims and families of Sunday’s mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, FL, and more will be raised a fundraiser Friday at Soho, a club in Ferndale that is popular with the gay community.
The auction and fundraiser begins at 8 p.m. at the small nightclub, located at 205 W. Nine Mile Road in Ferndale.
Craig Covey, a former Oakland County commissioner who is hosting the event with Soho owner Tom Pearlman, said in a news release that business owners and community leaders have pledged several thousand dollars in matching funds and items for the auction.

“We want to help our fellow community members and their families in Orlando and this is one way to send love and caring during this tragic time,” Covey said.

Funds will be sent to Equality Florida Pulse Victim Fund. More than $4.5 million has already been raised.
The evening of the massacre, the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history as well as the deadliest terror attack since 9/11, Ferndale hosted a candlelight vigil. On Tuesday, a rally at Affirmations, a community center for Metro Detroit’s gay community, drew 800 people.
June is Gay Pride month around the world, and festivals and parades have been occurring around the country this month.
