Bears offense disappears in pre-regionals, leads to disappointing finish for seniors.

BIRMINGHAM - The hero on Monday night at the Birmingham Ice Arena was the only freshmen on the ice.

Birmingham freshman defenseman Lucas Altmeter scored two goals in the second period to give Birmingham Unified a 2-1 lead over Berkley-Ferndale Unified and shift the momentum after falling behind in the first period 1-0.

Birmingham Unified ended up winning the pre-regional semifinal by a decisive 5-1 score.

The goals for Birmingham piled up in the third, but it was Almeter's goals that ultimately were the difference maker. Senior Nick Landgraf scored the Bears lone goal of the night with less than two minutes to go in the first.

For a full recap of the game check back here tomorrow morning. Ferndale Patch will have comments from both coaches and Landgraf on the first round playoff game.
