The attempt at the Citgo was the second this year. On Feb. 2, police investigated a similar crime, Wilson said.

A neighbor who heard breaking glass alerted police to Wednesday morning’s attempted smash-and-grab. Diving a dark blue Dodge Dakota pickup, the two suspects allegedly backed into the doors of the building, but were unsuccessful in breaking through the doors.

They then got out of the truck, hooked a chain to the truck and around the doors and tried pulling the doors open, again failing in their attempts, according to police.

After the second failed attempt, “the would-be thieves then collected their chains and drove away,” Wilson said.

The witness was able to give police a partial description of the suspects, who were both wearing hoodies. One was tall, and the other was short and stocky.

Anyone with information regarding this crime are asked to call the Ferndale police at (248) 541-3650 or Crimestoppers for a potential reward.
