Motown Museum announced today that on Thursday, April 28, it will offer adults two Museum admission tickets for the price of one, and free admission to kids 12 and under in celebration of the late Motown Museum founder Esther Gordy Edwards’ birthday. Motown Museum Chairwoman and CEO Robin Terry made the announcement.
“On Founder’s Day, we acknowledge the life of my late grandmother, who was a recognized businesswoman and a critical part of the Motown legacy and also the reason we are preserving and protecting the Motown story today due to her vision of creating a place to offer visitors from around the world the opportunity to experience the physical space where the unmistakable Motown Sound was born,” Terry said. “It is our hope that local families will visit the Museum and enjoy the day together at this reduced price to celebrate this incredible legacy born in Detroit.”
Esther Gordy Edwards founded Motown Museum in 1985. Sister of Motown Records Corporation founder Berry Gordy, she held a variety of leadership roles in the company, including senior vice president and corporate secretary.
