PHOTO: Ferndale Students 'Stand for Change' Against Bullying

Students and teachers from and joined students from across the country in standing for a moment of silence for all those who have been bullied and as a pledge to prevent bullying when and where it occurs.

FHS Assistant Principal Roger Smith introduced the event, which was held in the high school gym, by letting the students know they were symbolically standing with millions just like them at noon on May 4. FHS Principal Herb Ivory and FMS Principal Dawn Warren also spoke at the event.

Stand 4 Change was created by Jeff Sakwa, President of Defeat the Label, an anti-bullying movement. He says 13 million children are bullied in school each year and it’s time to take a stand.

“Our hope is that May 4th can be the beginning of the end, by each person taking responsibility for themselves and continuing to raise awareness about this issue,” Sakwa said.
