Vote Now: Ferndale Student in Top 10 Finalists for $10K Scholarship

A Ferndale student needs your help to win a $10,000 scholarship for college.

senior Natalie Berger has been named one of the top 10 finalists in the #mi2020 Scholarship Competition.

The competition asked students to submit videos explaining the importance of investing in a higher education, and how the Michigan 2020 Plan to offer free college tuition to all students is the right investment for Michigan to make. Click here to see Berger's video and cast your vote.

The scholarship is worth one year of tuition, up to $10,000, at any of Michigan’s community colleges or public universities.

Senator Vincent Gregory (D–Southfield) commended Natalie’s creativity and enthusiasm in promoting higher education and encouraged Oakland County residents to vote for her video entry.

"I was very moved by Natalie’s video, and I am glad to see that online voters agreed,” Gregory said in a news release. "She had a great message, and it’s vibrant and creative students like her that we are trying to help pay for college with the #mi2020 Scholarship Competition and the Michigan 2020 Plan."

The 10 students qualified for the finals by receiving the highest number of votes during the semi-final round of the competition, during which more than 40,000 votes were cast by people all across Michigan.

Voting is open through Friday, May 25. Residents can vote online or via phone or text message.

Berger compiled a creatively edited video that takes a look at the future of Michigan's citizens. She used graphics, music, simple texts and familiar images of people learning, growing and aspiring to become something great in life to send her message.
