• Calumet was lone visitor this past week (grandhaventribune.com) — A Great Lakes freighter, the motor vessel Calumet, was the only commercial ship to call at Ferrysburg’s Verplank dock last week, delivering a load of stone. If you heard loud thuds or saw deck cranes moving, that was the crew opening hatches and operating the ship’s self-unloading system, a now-standard technology that quietly keeps local commerce moving.
