• Black bear spotted in Flat Rock, police say (thenewsherald.com) — A black bear has been caught on a home security camera near Woodruff Avenue between I-75 and Olmstead Road in Flat Rock, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation. Police and the Michigan DNR urge residents to secure trash, bring pets inside, avoid feeding wildlife, and call local police or the DNR if they spot the bear. Sightings are rare but can occur in spring.
   

• Wayne County sued over 'secret' bus tax meeting (detroitnews.com) — Flat Rock is one of 17 Wayne County communities that previously opted out of SMART bus service but could now face a new countywide transit tax under disputed ballot language. A lawsuit claims the Wayne County Transit Authority approved that language in an illegal secret meeting and misled voters about whether the millage is a renewal or a brand-new tax for places like Flat Rock.
