1. MSU Dairy Store to join Flint Farmers' Market. What's planned (bnd.com) — MSU's Dairy Store is bringing its ice cream to downtown Flint, with a new location planned at the Flint Farmers' Market in 2027 and a free-scoop giveaway there from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. 2. FOMA Film Series Brings Independent and International Cinema to FIA Museum + Art School (flintside.com) — Flint film lovers can catch a full season of independent, international, and classic movies at the Flint Institute of Arts, with screenings every weekend and clear ticket pricing. October's lineup alone spans Lebanon, Japan, France, Iran, and Pakistan, all shown right on E. Kearsley Street. Residents can check the FIA film schedule online for the latest titles and any changes.
3. Flint partnership expands affordable housing with 10 apartments for veterans (midmichigannow.com) — Veterans in Flint now have 10 dedicated apartments at the new Orchard Manor complex, thanks to a partnership between the Flint Housing Commission and Communities First Inc. Supported by HUD-VASH vouchers, the program also offers additional tenant-based vouchers, encouraging local veterans struggling with housing to connect with Veterans Affairs and apply for these affordable options.
4. Genesee County pitch contest awards $15K to small businesses (abc12.com) — Six Genesee County entrepreneurs just split $15,000 in prizes at the Two-Lane Fast Pitch competition held at the Flint Farmers' Market, backed by the Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance and partners. Flint restaurant 8-1-0 Tings won $10,000 toward a food truck, while mobile bartending startup Sips and Vibes earned $5,000, with organizers planning to repeat the contest next year.
5. Flint restaurant owner to be freed from ICE custody after $5,000 bond posted (abc12.com) — A Flint restaurant co-owner detained by ICE will soon be released after supporters post a $5,000 bond, clearing the way for him to resume work. His detention forced Kabuki Japanese Restaurant on Corunna Road to close and left several employees without jobs, but the team now hopes to reopen while his immigration case continues in court.
