Organizers emphasize inclusion, academic support, and community service projects across Genesee County, with scholarships, workshops, and sponsorship opportunities available. Oct. 8 deadline nears for Flint water settlement signatures from former minors (midmichigannow.com) — Flint residents who were minors during the water crisis face an Oct. 8 deadline to submit missing signatures and Social Security information or risk losing settlement money. Local advocates and Mayor Sheldon Neeley are urging people to check their notices, seek help completing claims, and pushing for an extension and in-person assistance at City Hall so no one misses out.
   

4. Steam trains offer whimsical color trips. 3 trips to take this fall (battlecreekenquirer.com) — Flint families can hop aboard the Huckleberry Railroad at Genesee County Parks for evening Halloween Ghosts & Goodies rides starting Oct. 3, complete with treats, cider, donuts, and a 40-minute countryside trip. The piece also highlights other Michigan fall color train excursions, but Flint's Crossroads Village stands out with its historic village, magic show, and 20 treat stops.
   

5. Woman who represented herself in 1-day trial convicted over Flint traffic stop charge (mlive.com) — A 41-year-old Flint woman who represented herself in court has been convicted in Genesee County of resisting and obstructing a police officer and operating an unregistered vehicle after a 2025 traffic stop near Hemphill and Fenton roads. Jurors acquitted her on a second resisting charge, and sentencing is set for October 30. As a second-offense habitual offender, she faces up to three years in prison.
