The Barry-Eaton District Health Department’s latest report highlights which school, church, restaurant, and mobile vendors met every cleanliness and food-handling standard last month. 
• Budget cuts are hindering the fight against invasive species across the state (wdet.org) — Work to control invasive plants is underway right in a Grand Ledge park, where specialists are battling species like lesser celandine and Japanese barberry along the Grand River. But statewide budget cuts to Michigan’s invasive species program mean fewer grants, less local treatment, and long-term risks for ecosystems across Mid-Michigan, including Eaton County’s parks and natural areas.
• Bracket revealed for 64th Dean Shippey Capital Diamond Classic (wlns.com) — Grand Ledge’s baseball team will defend its record 31 Capital Diamond Classic titles when it faces Portland St. Patrick on Monday, May 18 at Michigan State’s McLane Stadium. The 10-team regional tournament features several mid-Michigan schools and serves as a key tune-up before the state playoffs.
