Alfred Angelo Bankruptcy: How To Avoid Wedding Day Blues
Resources available for Michigan brides-to-be in Michigan left gownless by the sudden closure of runway designer Alfred Angelo.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Brides-to-be in Michigan could be singing wedding day blues after the nationwide shutdown of bankrupt bridal gown retailer Alfred Angelo. But there are steps they can take to make sure they have either a dress or a refund.
Runway dress designer Alfred Angelo, whose 61 bridal stores in 23 states include one in Michigan, closed without warning last week and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on July 14. The Michigan store is located at 3763 28th St. SE in Grand Rapids.

“When businesses announce bankruptcies overnight, employees and consumers alike are left with frustration, fear, and uncertainty,” Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette said in a news release outlining steps brides shoul take to limit financial loss, protect their privacy and reach a solution.

- Customers can visit the Better Business Bureau’s report on Alfred Angelo's closure at http://bbb.org/h/jubg, where updates will be posted as more information becomes available. - If your purchase was made using a credit card contact your credit card company and file a chargeback.
- Gather your receipts and documents in preparation for any opportunities to obtain a resolution.
- If you made your purchase from a third party retailer look into their refund policy and contact them to see if they can help.
- Competitor David’s Bridal is offering a 30 percent discount to customers who purchased bridal gowns and a 20 percent discount for bridesmaids dresses ordered through Alfred Angelo, but that did not yet receive them. A company representative told Patch that customers must have a copy of their Alfred Angelo receipt to get the discount. Rush fees are also being waived, according to the store's website. The Better Business Bureau warns those taking advantage of the discounts make sure they understand applicable terms and policies, especially if there is no time to correct errors and or make alterations.
